A House with History

Cuilcheanna House has stood in its present form since the mid Victorian era, but it has its original roots in the 17th century when it belonged to the estate of Cameron of Lochiel. Otherwise known as Lochiel the Gentle, Cameron of Lochiel was a known Jacobite sympathiser, so following the doomed Jacobite uprising of 1745 it is believed that the English army were billeted at Cuilcheanna to quell any remaining sympathies and the troops were put to work building the wall around the garden at the side of the house.

We’ve thought of everything.

With 9 bedrooms the house makes a fabulous holiday home for up to 17 people, but it still has an equally cosy and homely feel for smaller parties.

The Ground Floor has three reception rooms. At the front of the house, with a view towards Glencoe, is the dining room with large extending tables capable of seating your whole party in one sitting. On the other side of the house at the front is a comfortable sitting room with dual aspect windows looking towards Glencoe on one side and along Loch Linnhe towards the Isle of Mull on the other. Drink in the views in front of the wood burning stove in this comfortable and welcoming room or simply relax whilst watching TV. There is a second more informal sitting room with TV, games console, & DVD player. There are also a good selection of books, board games and local maps. From here you have direct access to the garden through sliding patio doors. On this floor there is an en-suite twin bedroom with a walk-in shower.

The kitchen boasts a gas fired AGA (however there are also two electric ovens and a five-ring gas hob), a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave – in fact everything you would expect to find in a well-equipped modern kitchen. We also have a large utility room for your muddy boots and wet coats with a washing machine, tumble drier and an additional fridge.

On the First Floor there are 4 double bedrooms, 2 twins, 1 king-size and 1 single room – all of the rooms are en-suite. The rooms all have either a loch-view or views over the hills at the back of the house. Each bed has feather and down duvets and pillows. If you would like hypoallergenic bedding please let us know in advance. Bed linen & towels are provided.

We can also provide a cot, high chair and even a dog crate if required.

Outside at the front of the house is a level lawned area. The garden is completely enclosed by a wall but please note that determined dogs will be able to jump over it as it is relatively low in places. There is ample parking space for approximately 10 cars.
